QUALIFICATIONS: BSN and ESA certification at initial or continuing level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Organize and implement student vision and hearing screening as required by the district/state
-
Monitor immunization status and records of each child as required by the district/state and inform the principal if students are not in compliance with RCW's
-
Oversee and/or identify significant deviations from normal developmental growth patterns and physical functions and determine need for referral
-
Provide professional assistance in planning and implementing a coordinated program of temporary care for the ill or injured student, including an adequate system of parent notification
-
Attend faculty, staff, and in-service meetings as requested
-
Provide consultation and act as resource in assisting the district health team in presenting health information to the total school/district, when appropriate
-
Remain current with educational and professional developments and advancements in the health related fields
-
Provide assessment and evaluation of the health developmental status as unique needs of special education students as required by 504 Diabetes Act, and interpret these findings to appropriate school personnel
-
Provide guidelines for health assistant and assist when it is appropriate
-
Assess students and/or classrooms for communicable disease if requested to do so by the building administrator
-
Provide assessment and evaluation of the health and developmental status of students; interpret these findings to the site GQP, and refer students with health and physical development problems to the appropriate core facility
-
Provide home consultation regarding the special health needs of students
-
Provide health counseling to aid students and their families in dealing more effectively with the students' health needs
-
Supervise the maintenance of student health records

Initiate referrals to parents, staff, and community health care providers; evaluate the follow through and outcome of the referral
-
Develop/implement Individualized Health Care Plans/Emergency Action Plans with specific goals, nursing interventions and evaluations for medically fragile/special needs children
-
Provide staff education/in-servicing related to students and special needs
-
Evaluate the effects of medication and health management procedures administered in the school setting
-
Identify and refer children and families in suspected neglectful and/or abusive situations
-
Provide consultation and education to staff regarding issues of safety and protection, including bloodborne pathogen training
-
Oversee Wellness Center duties performed by health assistants and other staff trained to provide coverage in the Wellness Center

Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with district policies and procedures as required
DESIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS:

Public health nurse or similar experience
-
Experience in school setting preferred
-
Participation in a supervised practicum
-
Familiarity with principles of child development
-
Strong organizational and communication skills
-
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and oral communication skills
-
Ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues, and administrators
-
Willingness to benefit from building supervision, evaluation programs and professional development

Follow School Board policies and procedures
