What we need:
We are looking for a Metallurgist / Quality Control Manager who will be responsible for metallurgical and quality functions at our Oxnard plant. The incumbent shall assure metallurgical quality conformance of our products, provide solutions to metallurgical process/field problems and implement these solutions economically, timely and safely, as well as lead the Oxnard team in developing, evaluating and improving products and processes. The incumbent will be the technical and quality focal for audits, problem solving and system improvement. The incumbent will also be in charge of the Lab and Heat Treat department at APP Oxnard.
Job Requirements:

- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff. Provide leadership and coaching to department staff.
- Metallurgical assurance on product quality and customer quality concerns.
- Analyze test data and develop rework instructions for product failing to meet metallurgical requirements. Provide resolution of issues with outside metallurgical labs and processors.
- Interpret customer and industry specifications. Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
- Support manufacturing in the processing of forgings through all operations.
- Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
- Work with manufacturing to support the effort to reduce manufacturing process variation to improve quality and keep the company cost competitive.
- Use internal, customer, and 3rd party audit results to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes that are appropriate to each product type.
- Validate quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes, measuring production, documenting evidence, determining operational and performance qualification, writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
- Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, corrective actions, and re-validations.
- Serve as a member of the MRB team.
- Monitor and analyze Quality function results against KPIs.
- Set requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitor their compliance.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Chief Metallurgist.
Skill Requirements:
- In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
- Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Communicate effectively and professionally with all employees across all levels and departments at APP.
- 3+ years of metallurgical and/or quality experience in aerospace manufacturing, including metallurgy, reliability, statistical process control, inspection techniques, and contract interpretation. Experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity with knowledge of continuous improvement systems a plus.
- BS degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science or any closely related technical field.
- Strong familiarity with destructive and non-destructive testing.
- Working knowledge of the aluminum heat treat processing.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, Six Sigma Processes and/or QS9000 systems, as well as knowledge of quality techniques, such as FMEA, PPAP, and APQP.
- Experience and understanding of aerospace quality requirements and specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and quality engineering.
- Self starter, self managed and strong time management skills.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to travel.
Compensation: $86,400 - $115,200 a year. This is the lowest to highest salary starting rate we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted starting range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
