This is the journey level class. Employees in this class are fully qualified filter plant operators who have responsibility for the dependable operation of microfiltration and advanced membrane water treatment plants during an assigned shift. Duties are performed without immediate supervision; however, standard operating procedures are followed to provide a satisfactory water supply with supervisory personnel called upon in an unusual or emergency situation not covered by standard practices. In addition to the typical duties and job requirements for the WTPO Trainee, Assistant WTPO, WTPO I:
TYPICAL DUTIES
- Operates pumps and valves to regulate the flow of water through a treatment plant; determines the rate from appropriate meters, gauges, charts, and visual inspection, with demand for storage and distribution purposes.

Performs, records, and reports functions such as maintaining a log of plant operation, tests results, unusual operating conditions and maintenance work.

Maintains the plants and all equipment in clean and orderly manner.

Uses tools and equipment as required to make limited repairs and adjustments to all equipment as related to a water treatment plant.

Receives supplies and insures that they are properly stored.

Maintains good communications with supervisory and production operating personnel as related to the treatment plant and its functions

At Treatment Plants; takes samples of water at established times, makes standardized quality control tests and adjusts chemical feeders and other plant equipment as required.

Works with a variety of chemicals including sodium hypochlorite, LAS, PAC, sodium permanganate, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium bisulfite, citric acid, ACH, and polymers.

Perform duties and operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of valid California SWRCB Grade T3 Water Treatment Operator certification at the time of bid.

Ability to use independent judgement and initiative.

Must possess any additional certifications necessary to meet state requirements for the performance of work assignments as a Water Treatment Plant Operator II.
