Cornerstone Montgomery – Housing Benefits Specialist

The Housing Benefits Specialist Supports clients with finding and maintaining safe and affordable housing. Responsible for completing all Housing Initiative Program (HIP) documentation. Provides ongoing assistance to help clients apply for, understand and manage their benefits. Ensure maximum acquisition of entitlements and other forms of assistance for all clients served by the ACT team. Provide operational support to the ACT team.
Responsibilities of the Housing Benefits Specialist
- Learn Housing First Model and implement on the ACT team.
- Coordinate housing support for all housing subsidies to include HIP, HOC, HUI, and RRP applications.
- Participate in bi-weekly HIP County housing conference calls and HIP monthly meetings to help advocate for homeless clients and sustain housed clients.
- Participate in the Coordinated Entry System (CES), which is composed of Montgomery County Dept. of Health and Human Services, private and non-profit providers. Follow the current CES Policy and Procedure.
- Participate and attend as needed in the Continuum of Care Operations meeting, Interagency Commission on Homelessness, and annual activities required by HUD and Services to End and Prevent Homelessness (SEPH).
- Utilize the County’s electronic data base, HMIS Homeless Management Information System per County standards, and completing VI-SPDAT’s on all homeless ACT client
- Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications of the Housing Benefits Specialist
- Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of case management experience required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Experience working with the population of serious mental illness in the capacity of case management, integrated care coordination, and medical office organization strongly preferred.
- Must have access to a personal vehicle and be willing to use it for work purposes. Transporting clients in personal vehicle is required.
