The City of Falls Church Department of Public Works (DPW) is recruiting for a full-time Contract Specialist. A detail-oriented team member is needed to support the demands of DPW contracts, especially for construction projects, and related administrative activities.
As a member of the Public Works team, you will contribute through the provision of key administrative support for DPW contracts and procurement. This position will be responsible for routine contract management tasks such as renewals; accurate processing of contract invoices; and assisting with DPW procurement duties. Work on related tasks will likely be needed.
This is an entry-level position: some on-the-job training is expected and will be provided. Due to the variety of task assignments involved, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter with great organizational skills and a basic knowledge of both construction and public procurement. This position is especially suited to someone interested in a governmental contract management career. Familiarity with MUNIS or comparable financial accounting system is desirable.
The City of Falls Church is an independent city six miles from the nation's capital. It is 2.2 square miles with a population of about 16,000. The City is known for its urban village community, quality customer service, nationally ranked school system, environmental activism, and endless community activities.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the administration of routine DPW contract activities, including contract renewals;
- Processing construction pay applications and vendor invoices;
- Performing required tasks using Microsoft Office products, especially Excel;
- Maintaining focused attention to detail and accuracy with numbers;
- Requisitioning and handling changes to contract-related Purchase Orders;
- Assisting with DPW procurement activities;
- Preparing and maintaining accurate and complete electronic contract records; and,
- Completing other related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited high school with two (2) years of related professional experience, or graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates or Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of 3 months of directly related experience, or a similar combination of education and related professional experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Ability to think critically with regard to seemingly routine tasks;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel;
- Ability to accurately read, understand and scrutinize invoices and pay applications;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues;
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers and contractors/vendors; and,
- Desire to take on new tasks and a commitment to professional development.
Hours: This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position working Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM., with some flexibility. Up to 50% remote work is possible, after initial training period.
Salary & Benefits: Salary range starts at $66,500 and is commensurate with experience.
