Position: Dental Assistant

Responsibilities:
- Prepare treatment rooms for patients by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Welcome, comfort, seat, and drape patients to prepare them for dental treatment.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
- Update patients' medical histories and take blood pressure and pulse when appropriate.
- Provide information to patients and parents by answering questions and requests.
- Give instructions for oral care prior to and following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.
- Obtain informed consent prior to dental treatment, including written consent for necessary procedures.
- Sterilize and deliver instruments to the treatment area, position instruments for the dentist's access, suction, and pass instruments during procedures.
- Perform chairside assisting during dental treatments using 4-handed dentistry techniques.
- Select, mix, and place materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
- Expose and develop radiographs of diagnostic quality.
- Take impressions of patients’ teeth for the fabrication of study models; pour, trim, and polish study models.
- Manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification and emergency supplies.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative care.
- Document dental care services by charting in patient records.
- Assist providers (dentist and hygienist) in performing procedures by preparing the operatory and assisting during treatment as needed.
- Work collaboratively with all team members to reach daily goals.
- Maintain a tidy, safe, and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Serve as an infection control officer, developing protocols, and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
- Ensure proper disposal of contaminated or potentially contaminated materials and sharps.
- Perform office management tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, billing, and ordering supplies.
- Ensure the operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and maintaining equipment inventories.
- Maintain dental supplies inventory, ensuring operatories are appropriately stocked and organized.
- Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized office by removing trash, sweeping floors, cleaning up spills, and keeping break rooms and restrooms clean with necessary supplies available.
