Below are the qualifications and responsibilities as per Title 17 and 22 for you to review:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Direct care staff shall be competent to provide the service necessary to meet individual individual/resident needs and shall, at all times, be employed in numbers necessary to meet such needs. Direct care staff will have at least six months of prior experience providing direct supervision and special services or within six months of beginning to provide direct supervision and special services in the facility, complete at least 12 additional hours of continuing education.
2. Direct care staff must be 18 years of age.
3. All personnel shall be in good health, and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks. Good physical health shall be verified by a health screening, physical, including a test for tuberculosis (TB test), performed by or under the supervision of a physician not more than one year prior to or before employment. Any personnel with evidence of physical illness or emotional instability that poses a significant threat to the well-being of residents shall be relieved of their duties. This must be done before staff is on the premises to do direct care.
5. Pending receipt of criminal record transcript and prior to employment, all direct care staff must sign a statement under penalty of perjury, on LIC 508, which contains a declaration that he has not been convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation. Information regarding any prior convictions of a crime, with the exception of any minor traffic violation in which case, he/she must also acknowledge that his continued employment or presence in the facility is conditioned on approval of the licensing agency.
6. Must be able to obtain fingerprint clearance. Fingerprint clearance must be received before staff is on the premises to do direct care
7. Must have proof of up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification before working with individuals and be able to perform emergency first aid if needed, and must also have DSP 1 the first year of employment and DSP 2 in the second year of employment, and Non-Violent Crisis intervention/prevention certification.
8. All services requiring specialized skills must be performed by personnel qualified by training or experience in accordance with recognized professional standards.
9. Must attain Direct Support Professional I Certification within the first year of hire, and the Direct Support Professional II Certification within the second year of hire.
10. Must have a driver’s license and clean DMV record if required to drive individuals in the facility vehicle.
11. Must be trained regarding abuse reporting, including the new law concerning reporting physical abuse, immediately by phone or at least within two hours, also reporting to Adult Protective Services, the Ombudsman, and how to complete the document SOC 341 Suspected Abuse Form and that a copy of the SOC 341 must be sent to Community Care Licensing, the Regional Center and Adult Protective Services—and all other necessary Special Incident Reporting.
12. Must have a high-school diploma or GED.
13. Must have 6 months prior experience providing direct supervision and special services to individuals with developmental disabilities, or within 6 months of providing direct supervision and special services complete at least 12 additional hours of continuing education.
14. Shiran Residential Care will ensure that all Title 17 and Title 22 DSP requirements will be met.
