The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) is seeking to fill the position of
Marketing Communications Specialist

DEFINITION
Develops, organizes, and coordinates a comprehensive public information program for the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) with a focus on brand awareness.
Under general direction of the Communications Manager, performs a wide variety of administrative work requiring specialized knowledge of the Association, principles of communication (including frequent and responsible public and member contact), marketing, employee relations, and general office procedures; works cooperatively with staff; and performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, write and edit, proofread marketing and communications materials, including press releases, blog posts and social media content and other publications of the Association.
- Promote communications and marketing materials through appropriate channels including direct mailing, email marketing, and social media channels.
- Track analytics and interpret data and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns.
- Ensure that all communications and marketing material aligns with brand standards.
- Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos.
- Work with communications team members to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns.
- Respond to media inquiries and perform media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications.
- Attends meetings and makes presentations, prepares reports and correspondence.
- Assists in the coordination of the Political Endorsement Committee, membership engagement meetings, and other Association events.
- Creates event flyers, PowerPoint presentations, artwork as necessary.
- Interfaces on behalf of ALADS with media, political, and public contacts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related discipline and at least five (5) years of increasingly responsible full-time experience in a related professional capacity.
Knowledge Of:
Principles of communication and marketing; public affairs programs and corporate communications; developments in organized labor, business, and local government; media relations, audio-visual communications; public sector employee relations; and modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and Illustrator, spreadsheets, databases, media applications, graphic design and print production and desktop publishing programs and photo manipulation programs are highly desirable; photography skills are an asset.
Ability To:
- Understand the best practices of managing social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
- Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content; work under deadline to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position; write/prepare articles, brochures, collateral material, and newsletters on a wide variety of subjects using original or innovative techniques or style; write reports and routine business correspondence; make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics.
- Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team to brainstorm and collaborate for new ideas and strategies.
- Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, anticipate problems, problem-solve, and know when to escalate issues promptly.
- Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts with strong project management skills to carry assignment from conception to implementation with minimal supervision.
- Exercise independent judgment on matters where the consequence of error is moderate.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid California driver’s license, proof of car insurance, a dependable vehicle available to work each business day, and be willing to travel extensively throughout Los Angeles County on a regular basis, along with a willingness to work a flexible schedule, possibly beyond forty (40) hours per week.

Pay: $6,023.00 - $7,461.00 per month
