Purpose
To provide sports medicine services including: development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive sports medicine program for DME Academy.
Essential Job Functions
· Provides primary athletic training services including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, emergency management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, administrative duties, educational programs, and counseling for each sport.
· Provides on-site athletic training services for all teams at DME Academy.
· Assists and manages pre-participation physical examinations (PPE) for all student-athletes of assigned sports, including screening for preexisting conditions, identifying risk factors for injury, and ensuring safe medical clearance for participation in competition.
· Manages necessary athletic and non-athletic related illness and injury referral to hospitals, physicians, or other appropriate services.
· Consults with strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety for assigned student-athletes during workouts in order to meet the individual needs of each student-athlete.
· Applies taping, bracing, and immobilization techniques to prevent injury and/or re-injury.
· Assures inventory of supplies and equipment for athletic training room and home events (i.e. game, practice, etc.).
· Facilitates all health insurance related issues for assigned student-athletes and ensures and maintains the privacy of health-related information of all assigned student-athletes.
· Maintains proper documentation (both paper and electronic) of all injury/illness evaluations and treatments; utilizes the injury tracking system to log daily evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation's.
· Management duties involve assisting students with the following:
a. Setting initial appointment.
b. Transportation to appointments.
c. Setting follow-up appointments.
Required Certifications/Licensures
· Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training/sports medicine (Master’s preferred)
· NATA certified
· Athletic Training Florida State License, or ability to apply for said license
· First Aid/CPR/AED certified
· Previous experience as an Athletic Trainer
