JOB DESCRIPTION: STRTP DIRECT CARE COUNSELOR
Direct Care Counselor
Qualifications: STRTP Direct Care Counselors shall meet one of the requirements
1. Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
2. Valid Child Development Teaching Permit
3. Complete 12 semester units of Early Childhood Development, Adolescent Development, or Foster & Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
4. A valid certificate as an Alcohol, Drug or Alcohol & Drug Counselor and at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
5. A valid Vocational Training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience.
6. Previously been employed as a full-time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.
7. Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
In order to be considered for employment each candidate:
Must be 21 years of age Complete Health Screening (TB screening)
Possess a Valid California Driver’s License CPR/First Certificate Criminal Record Clearance
Reports To: Facility Manager and Administrator
Direct Care Staff shall exhibit the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
1. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of youth/NMD served in a children’s residential setting.
2. Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with children who have various backgrounds .
3. Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
4. Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
Direct Care Staff Duties:
1. Provide care and supervision for up to six adolescents between the ages of 8-18 in our state-licensed facility.
2. Assists the residents with all aspects of daily living; personal hygiene, school work, cooking, cleaning tasks, and transportation.
3. Responsible for the implementation of all house rules and program policies in accordance with Licensing Regulations Title 22 on Short-term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP).
4. Administer medication in accordance with the Medication Policies and Procedures, and other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
5. Assists with the implementation of the individual treatment/goals assessment plans. Provide assistance with individual and group therapy for all residents.
6. Mentor youth and create activities while serving as an example/role model to demonstrate independent living while maintaining a respectful relationship that is built on improving self-esteem for the clients.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
