The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
Liberty Mutual is seeking a Corporate Litigation Attorney to advise and defend Liberty Mutual Group companies in litigation throughout the United States and to support its various business units. In this role you will provide legal advice to assist the company in mitigating and resolving litigation and reputational risk, while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.
Responsibilities:

Advise the Company in substantial, complex litigation, including but not limited to: declaratory judgment actions, extra-contractual suits, class actions, and bankruptcies, which require legal expertise and may involve a high degree of financial or reputational risk, evaluation of complex issues, and/or vigorous adverse parties.

Liaison between internal clients and outside counsel to efficiently manage financial exposure and achieve client goals.

Advise clients and other legal partners on business policies and practices to mitigate potential litigation risk.

Retain and direct local defense counsel in assigned jurisdictions throughout the United States.

Review and coordinate litigation strategy and documents, including discovery responses and preparing corporate witnesses.

Perform necessary research and analysis of cases, statutes, regulations and other legal materials.

Provide high quality oral and written legal advice in a cost-effective manner to internal clients.

Advise clients of potential exposure, recommending and seeking authority to resolve matters or continue litigation.

Travel required up to 20% as necessary to represent the Company at settlement conferences, mediations and trials. May need to be available at times during West Coast working hours.

May assign, direct and review the work of law clerks and paralegals

May prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.

Maintains current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.
Qualifications:

Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities,
attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with Company personnel, outside counsel, and representatives of
other companies, government agencies and opposing parties.

Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.

Generally requires at least five years` experience as a practicing litigation attorney.
Qualifications-
Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues. Within certain practice groups, may require in-depth knowledge of a specialized area of law. Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
