A professional caregiver who plans, provides, and directs patient care and teaching, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with patient care standards and physician orders. Based on assessment including potential risk, he/she demonstrates the ability to develop a plan of care with goals and outcomes and incorporates therapeutic relationships with patients and their families in care delivery. He/she uses various media forms to maximize communication success, group participation and facilitation. He/she acts as a liaison between physicians, patient and family, and collaborates with other health care members. He/she may participate in health center and department committees and takes formal responsibility for teaching and professional development of others. The clinical nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age groups according to specific chronological age, developmental age, and/or psycho-social maturity.
