SUMMARY
The lower school teacher will be part of the lower school team which meets weekly and collaborates on planning, instructional practices, and student support. As with any teacher at Mayfield Junior School, there is an expectation that this person will be open to peer feedback, creative discussion, and child-centered in their approach. All teachers at Mayfield Junior School should familiarize themselves with the mission and vision statement and be prepared to actively teach with Holy Child goals in mind.
The lower school teacher should be ready to chaperone class trips, take on typical day-to-day duties such as lunch and carpool duties, and engage fully in all school or division wide events/experiences that develop the whole child.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructional

Serve as a homeroom teacher and teach and assess core academic subjects- language arts, math, social studies, science, and possibly religion

Differentiate the curriculum and meet the needs of diverse learners, helping every child reach his/her potential

Demonstrates a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom

Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student abilities

Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective
- Utilizes a variety of assessments and uses the data from the students to develop lessons and instructional activities as needed
- Open and willing to co-teach with other teachers in and out of the department to enhance and support the learning of each student

- Prepares well-thought-out and thorough conference reports and written documentation on student progress, meeting assigned deadlines and as needed

Meets reporting deadlines and requirements and follows school-wide procedures for reporting progress, grades, and mastery

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field

At least two years of experience teaching lower school K-4 preferred

Experience integrating technology into the curriculum
- Valid teaching credential – Elementary School preferred

Experience in faith-based or independent schools preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, read printed materials and tell the difference among colors. The employee must be able to push or pull up to 25 pounds as required. This role will require long periods of standing and walking. Frequent bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling, twisting.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job the employee works in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate and constant distractions due to constant foot traffic, and people talking. Employees are subject to indoor and outdoor working conditions with most work occurring indoors.
