Education required: A minimum of one year of education in a technical degree program. A bachelor’s degree in behavioral health field is preferred. A Qualified Professional is preferred. Attendance at an Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Vocational training is required either before hire or within 120 days after hire.
Work experience: A minimum of 1 year experience working with adults with mental illness and or substance abuse in a vocational capacity.

Position summary: The Vocational Specialist works with clients that have mental, substance abuse, and developmental disorders and assists them to obtain and maintain paid employment. The team member is called upon to work in the community in the role of job developer and job coach and as a counselor to assess and develop necessary work skills in job seekers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: General knowledge of IPS vocational services, and practices. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Understanding of treatment planning and a Team approach to treatment. Ability to be available for crisis situations and crisis phone rotation. Must complete required Vocational Training (IPS) within 90 days of employment. Knowledge of recovery principles and community resources concentrating on vocational opportunities. Ability to present members to employers and concentrate on strengths. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Possess knowledge of interventions needed for the members to find and maintain employment.
Travel Requirements: Valid Driver’s License and insurance required. Travel will vary depending on the daily schedule for this position. All travel is in the community where the members live and work.
