POSITION OVERVIEW
The mental health counselors are to assist people living with HIV with coping and processing the emotional and psychological aspects of having a diagnosis. The activities performed by the mental health counselors include: diagnoses of co-occurring disorders, intensive mental health therapy, counseling (individual and family), general mental health therapy, bereavement support for clients, crisis counseling and referral, facilitating group topics and activities. The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for assessing and responding to requests for mental health or substance use/addictions counseling for people living with HIV/AIDS and as well as other underserved individuals, completing annual training and training requested by leadership for provision of optimal mental health services to our target population.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- All staff providing direct mental health services to clients must be licensed and qualified within the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to provide mental health services as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
- Master’s degree in Mental Health
- Kentucky Licensure preferred
- Staff participating in the direct provision of services to patients must satisfactorily complete all appropriate CEUs based on individual licensure requirements at a minimum, as per the license requirement for each licensed mental health practitioner.
- Experience with HIV infected population is a plus
