Job Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy technology program
- Current ARRT certification
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Card
- Positive attitude
Experience:
- Experience with Elekta and Mosaiq (Preferred)
- Radiation Therapy: 1 year minimum required
- Comfortable performing basic simulations a plus
Essential Duties:
- Administer the doses of radiation to specific body parts prescribed by the radiation oncologist according to Sound Cancer Care standards.
- Position patients according to prescription for treatment. Treat patients utilizing and understanding 3 point and 2 point set ups, shifting (auto and manual), and imaging following Sound Cancer Care’s SOP.
- Follow principles of ALARA for radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
- Maintain patient electronic records, reports and files using the QCL.
- Review and verify patient identification, prescription, diagnosis, and patient chart.
- Conduct treatment sessions prescribed by patient's physician in accordance with the long-term treatment plan.
- Check and monitor radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Report unusual reactions to physician and nurse.
- Check for side effects to assess patients' reaction to treatment.
- Prepare and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing any assistance needed, and enforcing physicians' advice regarding side effects and post-treatment care.
- Prepare and construct equipment, such as immobilization and treatment devices in CT after being trained.
- Train other subordinate staff in Radiation Therapy.
- Act as liaison with all supportive care personnel.
- Help nursing staff in implementing appropriate follow-up care instructions.
- Store, sterilize, and prepare all applicators containing radioactive materials implanted by physician after being trained.
- Assist in the preparation and storage of sealed radioactive materials for use in any radiation treatments after being trained.
- Be able to lift and move 30lb while adhering to good body mechanics. Communicating physical limitations to coworkers and respecting each other’s limitations.
- Be able to communicate effectively with patients and their families. Validating their concerns while being kind and reassuring.
- Properly warming up and shutting down equipment after being trained.
- Keep console and other areas clean.
- Restock linen as necessary.
