Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. The Sr. Custodian will provide a clean environment for BAM staff, artists, patrons, and other guests by working with the Facilities Manager and custodial staff to ensure the custodial staff has sufficient resources to accomplish their assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning tasks as required and assigned including routine cleaning and restorative cleaning.
- Assign custodians to do tasks and complete work assignments.
- Recommend staffing schedules for their respective buildings to the Facilities Manager
- Ensure that there are adequate custodial supplies on site and process orders for replenishing supplies when needed.

Work with the Logistical Services Coordinator to track custodial inventory.

Recommend to the Facilities Manager tools and equipment that would improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Recommend to the Facilities Manager processes and procedures that would improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Communicate new policies and initiatives to custodians working in their respective building.
- Train new custodians assigned to work in their respective building.
- Process work orders and other documentation as assigned.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent

Minimum of 1 year supervisor experience preferred

Three years of custodial experience with floor maintenance equipment in a performing arts/museum environment
- Excellent time management skills for scheduling and supervising cleaning staff.

Leadership abilities to motivate and guide a team.

Attention to detail to ensure a high level of cleanliness in facilities.

Problem-solving skills to resolve any issues that may arise.

Excellent communication (oral, written), customer service, and organizational skills are essential.

Superior customer service skills.
- Basic computer knowledge and administrative skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work all shifts including overtime, as required.

Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to handle shifting task priorities.
Working Conditions: Administrative Work with Light Physical Exertion
Compensation: This position is full-time and non-exempt. The salary for this role is $57,634/yr and will be paid in accordance with the BAM/DC37 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm/ Regular days off: Saturday/Sunday
