SUMMARY
The Education Pathway Teacher position at South will support the goal of increasing the number of BIPOC educators through the development of a Teacher Pathway Program from Pre-K through College and beyond. Current areas of focus include:
HS Concurrent Education courses with MCTC for college credit
Education Internships at feeder schools
Academic Support to become successful in the courses
Social, Emotional, and Mental Health support
Experiential learning activities, such as field trips to elementary schools, reading buddies, tutoring younger youth after school, and college/career awareness activities
This position is part time classroom teaching and part time co-coordination. This position will support both the instruction at South and the Education Pathway development in our South community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach sections of concurrent enrollment courses in the Education Pathway Program at South.
Collaborate with feeder schools to create opportunities for students to observe, assist and intern in elementary classrooms.
Recruitment of South students into the Education Pathway program
Support students academically, socially, emotionally, and mentally to encourage successful completion of the concurrent enrollment courses, and the Education certificate
Develop curriculum in collaboration with MCTC and other Education Pathway Teachers to support the successful completion of college credits
Facilitate and support community planning for the Education Pathway program
Participate on building level leadership teams (Scheduling, ILT, Building Leadership, Professional Development, Equity, Culture & Climate)
Attend collaboration meetings within building staff, across district Education Pathway staff, and MCTC staff
Participate in annual grant writing projects from MDE
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Experience in designing, implementing, and differentiating culturally sustaining curriculum and aligning it with academic standards and learning outcomes to accelerate all students' achievement
Strong interpersonal skills with adults and students, in particular our American Indian community, multilingual learners, Black, Latine, and East African students & families
Ability to supervise and coach our future educators who are assisting or leading after school classes or in our reading buddies program
Experience with scheduling guest speakers, college visits and field trips
Ability to establish and maintain trustful, confidential, and supportive relationships with cooperating teachers who will welcome our future educators in their classrooms as observers, assistants and/or interns to help develop them as professionals
Ability to encourage multiple perspectives and resolve conflicts as they occur
Ability to foster collegiality and community among teachers through professional development
Ability to use a range of quantitative and qualitative data to enhance student learning
Proficiency with technology and technology systems
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Minnesota Teaching License in a secondary (high school) content area
Master’s degree in Education or at least 18 graduate credits in Education (this is required by Minneapolis College to serve as an instructor for concurrent enrollment courses as part of the Future Educator Pathway
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
BIPOC currently teaching in one of our partnership schools or lives in our community
Experience mentoring or coaching students and/or adults
Experience developing Culturally Sustaining Curriculum
Experience working with American Indian students and families
Experience working with multilingual, English Learner students and families and/or work with immigrant communities (particularly Spanish speakers and East African heritage students)
5 years of recent classroom experience
Prefer to have a teacher license in ELA or Social Studies, but not required; however, there could potentially be co-teaching involved if someone does not have this credential
