Job Title: Operating Room Recovery Nurse
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Recovery Nurse to join our prestigious plastic surgeon's practice. As a crucial member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional post-operative care to our patients following surgical procedures. Your expertise in patient recovery and compassionate care will play a pivotal role in ensuring our patients have a safe and comfortable experience during their healing process.
Responsibilities:
- Post-Operative Care: Monitor and care for patients in the recovery room immediately after surgery. Assess their condition, vital signs, and pain levels to ensure a smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery area.
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough patient assessments, including reviewing medical histories, allergies, and surgical procedures. Ensure patients are stable and respond promptly to any signs of distress.
- Pain Management: Administer medications and pain management techniques as prescribed by the surgeon to alleviate post-operative discomfort. Monitor and document the effectiveness of pain management strategies.
- Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with clear instructions on post-operative care, wound care, and medications. Address their questions and concerns, promoting a comfortable and informed recovery process.
- Wound Care: Assess and care for surgical incisions and wounds. Ensure proper dressing changes and monitor for signs of infection or complications.
- Recovery Room Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized recovery room, ensuring it is well-stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Follow infection control protocols to prevent post-operative infections.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the surgical team, including surgeons and surgical staff, to ensure a seamless transition of patients from the operating room to the recovery area. Provide updates on patients' condition and progress as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current nursing license and certification as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Previous experience as a recovery nurse, preferably in a surgical or operating room setting.
- Strong knowledge of post-operative care, pain management, and wound care.
- Compassionate and patient-focused with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment and remain calm under pressure.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and best practices.
- IV and foley placement
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and operating room protocols.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications.
- Minimum 2 years in Recovery Room
Standard shift:
- Two to three days per week, with one off week per month. Surgical days are primarily Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Surgical days may occasionally adjust to meet patient needs or address unforeseen circumstances.
- Surgical day usually begins around 6:30 am and ends around 4:00pm. Expect overtime.
