Job Summary:
The Product Design Engineer is a member of the Product design Team. This position serves as a technical liaison, working closely with customers; sales department and manufacturing departments to understand customer requirements in order develop products from concept through final design and manufacture.
The product design engineer is responsible for the following areas:

Meets with sales department and customers to understand product requirements and manufacturing goals.

Works with research and manufacturing departments to ensure product requirements are achievable and realistic with respect to manufacturability.

Understands and implements required analysis to determine product performance characteristics.

Utilizes and understands cad software, standard file transfer tools and drawing practices.
-
Works to develop product concept models, which are to be used as discussion tools to ensure customer goals, are satisfied.

Develops final product design models and drawing packages for the design of manufacturing tooling.

Work with other Engineering teams to quote protype or production parts and processes.

Contribute to the prototype and release to production process including:

Process development

Assisting in and overseeing the assembly and testing of prototype parts
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs additional design tasks as required by NPI Team such as:
-
Creates models and drawings for misc. parts or assemblies and drawing changes.

Develops shadowgraph charts for the inspection of manufactured parts and assemblies.

Analyzes contact (beam) designs with respect to design, or material changes.
-
Performs drawing translation of incoming and outgoing drawing formats from and to customers or vendors.

ECR/ECN Support for new and existing products.

Participate in Root Cause Analysis studies as needed.

Perform failure mode analysis as needed.

Design fixtures and gages for prototype parts as needed.

Other tasks as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to apply engineering principals and modern manufacturing techniques.

Knowledge of the properties and strength of materials.

Proven ability to utilize Creo cad software or equivalent.

Knowledge of ISO and QS quality systems.

Knowledge of ability to apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
Education and Experience:

4-year degree in engineering, or closely related field.
-
3-5 years’ experience in directly related field.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
-
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
-
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
