Job Purpose:
To provide transportation to off-premise activities, which allow residents to maintain ties to the community, and ensure the safety of all passenger and drivers of the bus. To assist the Director of Activities and Activity Department in executing the residents' off-premise activity program as directed by the DA.
Hours: Pool / as needed
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Is flexible and available, as needed, to transport and guide residents to and during off-premise activities as directed by the Director of Activities/Volunteer Coordinator and Activity Department. Helps to execute the outings in a safe manner.
- Works closely with DA, Activity Department and volunteers to inform, exchange ideas, coordinate services and discuss any format changes for outings.
- Evaluates program periodically, modifying and expanding as approved by the DA.
- Prepares bus for outings and is responsible for the condition of the bus and the care of tools and equipment used.
- Reports any resident concerns or difficulties experienced on outings to the Director of Plant Operations and/or Director of Activities for follow-up as necessary.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with residents, their families, fellow employees, volunteers, and the general public.
SECONDARY AND PERIODIC POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Attends required in-services and approved continuing education programs.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of bus driver experience preferred.
- Experience with older adults desirable.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language, and to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have a basic knowledge of commercial driving requirements.
- Ability to communicate, direct and instruct others.
- Trustworthy and dependable, with willingness to accept suggestions and ability to cooperate.
- High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene, neat and well groomed in appearance.
- Exhibits a sincere desire to work with the elderly, and has a growing understanding of the aging process.
- Capability of a flexible work schedule to accommodate duties.
- Successfully completes a physical exam and TB skin test or chest x-ray, as necessary.
- Complete and submit the required Motor Vehicle Release of Information Sheet.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sits, stands, bends, and walks intermittently during the day.
- Bends to touch toes, bends at waist, and able to do knee squats.
- Full extension of arms above head and to front of body. Frequently lifts weight of up to 25 pounds. Lifts up to 50 pounds infrequently with a variety of assistance from equipment.
- May push occupied wheelchairs of up 75-300 pounds, 50-500 feet.
