About HipStitch
HipStitch is a for profit, community art/sewing education space which offers exceptional opportunities to make, think and talk about sewing, fashion crafts and art. HipStitch provides sewing instruction primarily geared toward children ages 5-12, offering in studio classes, camps, and birthday parties. HipStitch is proud to partner with after school programs in the communities around our studios.
HipStitch seeks a dynamic, experienced Studio Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of a busy studio. The Studio Manager will oversee and implement all programs, including studio sewing and Fiber Art classes for all ages. The studio manager is part of the senior management team, and works closely with the Owner/Director on organizational development, strategic planning, outreach and finances. This will include contributing to administration and marketing efforts.
Position Responsibilities
Management Oversight:
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of a HipStitch studio, including answering emails, talking to customers and students and promoting HipStitch Programs.
- Manage, train, and evaluate staff, as well as hire and manage temporary summer/vacation staff.
- Plan future calendar and staff accordingly (this may include recruiting/interviewing)
- Ensure that the studio is clean, tidy, and student-ready. This will require some light cleaning and/or lifting 50 pounds.
- Maintain studio inventory, equipment, and supplies.
- Represent HipStitch in the community - through classes, offsites, events, etc.
Program Management:
- Design, create and implement new project ideas to inspire increased class participation.
- Evaluate and supervise sewing instruction for students ranging from young children to seasoned adults for parties, classes, camps and creative events.
- Ensure that materials are prepared for classes, camps, parties, and other programs.
Strategic Oversight:
- Promote an organizational culture of inclusion, diversity, and equity, reflection, curiosity, analysis innovation, and open mutual feedback.
- Work closely with staff, students, and faculty to create a welcoming, energized, organized studio environment.
- Ensure that the classes offered are mission-driven and revise or develop new classes as needed.
- Regularly evaluate ROI of classes and programs and revise or develop new classes as needed. Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Assist and participate in the development of vision, goals and objectives to outline and implement the next phase of HipStitch’s strategic plan.
Experience and Requirements
- 2-3 years working in a studio or small business environment. Management experience is helpful but not required.
- Highly organized and systems-minded, with the capacity to develop and implement efficient processes and protocols. Comfortable taking on multiple responsibilities as needed.
- Experience working with children aged 5-12, comfortable teaching adult students as well. Comfortable being in a leadership/instructor role.
- Sewing/fiber art experience is extremely helpful. Basic machine and hand sewing ability required.
- Applicants must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds and navigate around a studio environment (including stairs) as part of the job requirements.
- Valid drivers license and access to a car is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
