Alden Management Services (“AMS”), located in Chicago, Illinois, is currently seeking an experienced Vice President of Human Resources (“VPHR”) to develop and execute human resources (“HR”) strategies and operations in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. The VPHR will be tasked with building an effective HR function for AMS which includes assessing, planning, recommending, and implementing the future structure of the HR department. This is a hands-on position that requires an experienced HR professional who is able to excel with minimal direction to fill this newly created role. The ideal candidate will be a flexible team player who possess a deep knowledge of all areas of HR, a strategic mindset, and the ability to develop and manage HR programs. The VPHR is required to work in the office on a full-time basis (this is not a remote position).
The VPHR is responsible for developing, implementing and managing all aspects of the HR function for over five thousand employees of AMS, which includes compensation and benefits, HR policy and compliance, learning and development, and payroll. The VPHR manages, coordinates and/or performs daily human resources activities, participates in the AMS planning process, and develops and implements strategic human resources initiatives.
AMS is a family-owned business that provides health care and residential solutions for seniors with over 40 sites throughout the Chicagoland area, Rockford, and southern Wisconsin. Key Responsibilities
- HR Organizational structure: Assess the current AMS HR structure and functions, and design, implement and promote HR programs.
- Policies and procedures: Design, implement and promote HR policies and procedures. Serve as a trusted advisor to AMS managers and staff on HR policies, compliance, procedures, and best practices.
- Facilities management support: Provide oversight, guidance, and support to AMS facility managers related to systems and processes for talent acquisition, onboarding and off boarding. Track and monitor turnover rates across AMS facilities.
- Compensation and benefits: Oversee employee benefits programs (health, retirement) including design, administration, and compliance. Manage benefit renewals and bid processes.
- Payroll: Oversee the management of the company’s payroll functions including ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, maintain accurate payroll records, and the accurate and timely processing of payroll.
- Performance management: Oversee performance appraisal processes and provide coaching and support to facility managers and employees to enhance performance and productivity.
- Intranet: Develop and maintain HR, benefits and compensation content on myAldenHR intranet.
- Labor relations: Coordinate labor relations issues and grievances with the union and manage employee collective bargaining activities.
- General: Maintain the professional knowledge and skills required to perform all assigned responsibilities, including trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
- Work Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of related human resources work experience, including at least seven (7) years’ experience in a management level role. Experience with a collectively bargained workforce preferred.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field required; relevant Master’s degree preferred. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP or other professional HR designation highly desired.
