Freedom House, a domestic and sexual violence agency headquartered in Princeton and serving five counties in north-central Illinois, is hiring a Therapist. The primary responsibility of this professional is to screen, assess, and provide treatment for domestic violence victims who suffer from co-morbid mental health conditions that stem from or occur in conjunction with domestic violence. This position will fully support the agency’s mission, philosophy, and values by exhibiting professionalism, confidentiality, excellence, competence, teamwork, innovation, respect, personalization, commitment to the communities/persons served and accountability/ownership.
Essential Responsibilities
These include but are not limited to:
- Provide individualized trauma-informed therapy to victims of domestic violence addressing co-morbid conditions such as, but not limited to PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and/or obsessive-compulsive disorders in adults stemming from or related to domestic violence for DV victims, witnesses and non-offending family.
- Maintain appropriate licensure.
- Adhere to NASW or ACA Code of Ethics.
- Document all client contact, advocacy, referrals, and community contacts as necessary and according to internal and external requirements.
- Provide crisis intervention to adult clients and their dependent children as needed.
- Provide advocacy and referrals for social services such as housing, SNAP, or childcare.
- Assist clients in developing safety plans and service plans.
- Respond to hospitals or law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in outreach events, give public education presentations, and conduct professional trainings.
- Attend required trainings and regularly scheduled program/all-staff meetings.
- Holiday shift rotation for agency coverage
Other Responsibilities
- Local travel to client appointments is required.
- Supports and follows agency policies and procedures; complies with confidentiality as defined in the Illinois Domestic Violence Act.
- Maintains professional relationships with agency staff and clients.
- Participates in ongoing professional development requirements.
- Meets deadlines for clerical tasks.
- Maintains agency records and workspace in an orderly fashion.
- Represents the agency at stakeholder and community meetings.
- Serves as a Mandated Reporter.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Manager.
Qualification Requirements
- Illinois clinical licensure to provide psychotherapy (i.e., LCSW, LPC, LCPC, or equivalent)
- Two years of clinical experience
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with teammates.
- Excellent written, verbal, and counseling communication skills.
- Successful completion of 63.5 hour combined Domestic/Sexual Violence training by an ICDVP certified training site. This can be provided by Freedom House upon hiring.
- Experience, ability, and willingness to communicate and work well with survivors from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds and with various religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, age variance, and differing abilities.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and agency confidentiality.
- Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
- Proficiency with computer and software applications utilized by the agency.
- Be able to comply and pass a background check with a drug test.
- Has own, reliable means of transportation.
- Flexibility with work schedule, as this may vary according to client and/or agency needs.
