Reports To: Manager of Animal Health
Job Purpose: To support the Veterinary Department in tasks related to office administration, client relations, adoptions, and animal safety and wellbeing as directed.
Essential Functions:
- Communicate professionally with co-workers, puppy raisers, and graduates via telephone, e-mail, written form and/or in person
- Accurate and timely data entry
- Answer and respond to phone calls and emails in a timely manner
- Schedule appointments and other procedures as directed
- Assist with preparing medical records and other health related records as directed
- Dispense flea, tick and heartworm preventatives as directed
- Maintain Home Again microchip registration on all dogs
- Assists with adoptions of career changed dogs
- Clean and maintains the recovery area to control the spread of disease as directed
- Hold and/or restrain animals during veterinary procedures as needed
- Monitor animals’ recovery from medical procedures and notifies the Vet of any changes or symptoms as directed
- Assist veterinary team in medical procedures as directed
- Provide emergency first aid to sick/injured animals as directed
- Working weekends, nights, holidays, and/or early mornings may be required
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and up to 80 lbs. with assistance
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to use hands and arms in handling, positioning, and manipulating different items and dogs
- Ability to push, pull, reach overhead, bend, and kneel
- Ability to wear protective gear including masks, gloves, goggles, boots
- Visual acuity required to see and read dog's behaviors, printed documents, and computer screen
- Hearing ability required to interact with dogs, staff, clients, and volunteers
- Ability to work in a kennel environment with multiple dogs
- Ability to tolerate elevated noise levels
- Ability to tolerate multiple interruptions
- Ability to work in small areas
Qualifications:
- 18+ years of age
- Valid driver’s license and insurable
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with canines, preferably in a vet office/clinic
- Basic understanding of canine health with vet assistant experience highly desired
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact with all types of people/personalities
- Excellent math skills a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel; experience with veterinary software such as Cornerstone a plus
- Multitasking and organizational skills a high priority
- Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Work well as part of a team and in a team environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.26 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
