JOB PURPOSE
The Employment Specialist is responsible for a variety of duties related to providing employment services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes Job Development, Interview Assistance, Ongoing and Follow-Along job coaching support, and completing the discovery process for individuals who qualify for those services. The Employment Specialist is required to oversee the quality of employment services that individuals are receiving by performing all duties in accordance with State of Maryland regulations and Companions’ policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative and case management supports for agency programs
- Will promote and foster the strategic plan through workforce development activities. Typical duties include:
- Explaining the concept of inclusion to employment/volunteer contacts.
- Facilitating inclusive work/volunteer environments for people supported
- Will utilize discovery and customized employment strategies to create career plans for an identified group of people supported.
- Responsible for procurement and development of contract and direct hire positions for groups and individuals. Typical duties include:
- Oversight of start-up of community-based paid and volunteer enclaves/mobile crews.
- Ensuring efficient and effective completion of the scope of work during the start-up period.
- Ensuring smooth transition of authority to the Team Coordinator and Job Coach and/or Direct Support Professional.
- Following up with the employer to ensure satisfactory performance.
- Working with identified staff, will assist with the transition of group employment workers to competitive individual employment.
- Acts as a liaison in the community to ensure smooth transition and continuity of service between job seeker and employer
- Assist the job seeker with indirect job-related issues, such as arranging transportation and/or learning how to access transportation to get to work.
- Collaborates with the individual and employment coordinator ot create employment plans that outline the job seeker's interests, strengths, and support needs to match employer's needs.
- Stay current with all labor laws and employer incentives pertaining to workers with disabilities
- Complete DORS documentation, as needed, including but not limited to applications and progress reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be ACRE and CESP certified
- Must have minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in human services, special education, or a related field
- 1+ years of professional job development, employment services experience is preferred
- 3+ years of experience working with an IDD population agency provider
- Computer/System Skills: MS Office, Gmail, GoogleDocs, and abilities to maintain cloud-base human resources database program
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with a private vehicle insurance required
SALARY RANGE
$57,000-$60,000
