Job Title: Campus Minister and Service Coordinator

The Campus Minister and Service Coordinator (CMSC) is a committed, faith-filled, academically qualified person who supports all activities in Campus Ministry, with an additional focus on Christian Service. Christian Service includes school programming for students that involves service learning, social justice, faith, and reflection. The CMSC collaborates closely with the Director of Campus Ministry to prepare and execute all the student faith formation programming. Additionally, as part of Christian Service, the CMSC is responsible for the recruitment and management of volunteers seeking roles of service opportunities at Cristo Rey.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to Catholic education and a willingness to Cristo Rey’s mission. The successful Cristo Rey employee is dedicated to developing the whole person in academics, religious growth, the Corporate Work Study Program, and commitment to others.
Role and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and track the service requirements for each grade level.
- Coordinate with teachers at each level to integrate service with learning in particular classes.
- Record and report student community service hours and involvement in service activities to school administrators and asesores.
- Research and coordinate group service opportunities.
- Maintain and create relationships with our community partners and nonprofit organizations.
Lead social justice awareness, service learning, and advocacy education
- Work with partner Jesuit High School campus ministers to plan events that connect to Ignatian values.
- Recruit, prepare, attend, and lead a student delegation to participate in the annual Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice in Washington, D.C, and annual Arrupe Leaders Program with the Ignatian Solidarity Network; contingent to budget availability
- Recruit, coordinate, and attend with student groups for summer service opportunities, including but not limited to, Bethlehem Farm, Nazareth Farm, and Jerusalem Farm.
Collaborate with Director of Campus Ministry:
- Recruit and prepare students and staff volunteers for retreats.
- Assist in arranging the logistics and processing paperwork in preparation for retreats.
- Research, survey, plan, and execute need-based programs for students specifically safe spaces to discuss racial and environmental traumas through a faith lens.
- Participate as a member of the Religious Formation Team and collaborate with faculty, the Jesuit Regent, the Director of Mission, the Director of Campus Ministry, the Religion Department, and other departments of the school to promote alignment of shared student formation goals and activities.
- Collaborate and meet as needed with the Archdiocese of Chicago, Jesuit Schools Network, Ignatian Solidarity Network.
Volunteer opportunities
- Actively recruit annually for the Jesuit Volunteer (JV) Program at Cristo Rey and other individuals seeking volunteer opportunities at Cristo Rey. (contingent programs active status)
- Interview and propose candidates that are a good fit for volunteer opportunities
- Work with the leadership team to determine volunteer placement.
- Manage housing and community living for all Jesuit Volunteers when applicable.
- Provide support and professional development to all participants of volunteer programs at Cristo Rey.
Additional Responsibilities
- Willing to substitute teach single class periods only when urgently needed
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in related field with at least two years’ experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a team-oriented approach.
- Proactive attitude and good time management.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve under pressure.
- Able to adjust to change and demonstrate flexibility to address needs of school/students.
- Willingness to be active in school community activities/events/and participate in professional development.
- Willingness to work some weekends and evenings.
- Commitment to the goals, objectives, and mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
- The ability to respond effectively to the needs of students.
- Commitment to working with first generation Mexican-American students.
- Latino cultural competency and Spanish language fluency required
