Unique Opportunity for an EAP Counselor
Full and Part Time Position Available
Capital Counseling has an immediate opening for the right counselor to fill a unique position at our agency. The ideal candidate will have prior EAP counseling experience and training experience, will have a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling or a related field, and will be comfortable with various administrative and personnel management responsibilities.
We have openings available for both full time and part time. Hours are Monday through Friday with some evening availability needed along with possible weekend availability. Currently the agency is operating in a hybrid model. This position will require in person days at one or more of our capital region offices along with remote day options. Our office locations include Albany, Saratoga, Colonie, Schenectady and Troy.

Key points:
- Masters degree is required but licensure is not so this is a great oppurtunity to get in your clinical hours towards licensure!
- In person work is required so you must be located in the Capital Region or willing to relocate.
POSITION SUMMARY
The right candidate will provide clinical services in our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) across a rich and dynamic clinical environment that combines direct client counseling, web and tele-counseling, group support, mental health training and awareness, and customer organization engagement.
Responsibilities include individual, family, child and group therapy. The capacity to complete therapeutic assessments; develop, update and review treatment plans, and implement therapeutic treatment modalities in a culturally competent and compassionate manner is vital. Knowledge of EAP services and supervisory skills is essential. The preferred candidate will be competent in management consultation and professional training in a business environment. Familiarity with regional behavioral healthcare providers is essential. Experience working with groups, providing support following traumatic events, and working in multiple office and customer locations is required.
Capital EAP is temporarily operating in a hybrid-work setting. Due to this, the ideal candidate will have access to a reliable internet connection, a private and confidential work-setting while working remotely, and the ability to learn and work with various online platforms such as Zoom, Doxy, Slack, EHR systems and Microsoft products.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- A passion for helping others, and exceeding the expectations of EAP customers, clients, and colleagues
- Provide culturally competent counseling services to clients both in-person, over the phone, and over video-based services
- Accurately assess client needs and strengths, develop treatment plans and document client contacts in an electronic medical records system
- Provide for safety and confidentiality of clients and staff
- Provide on-call crisis phone counseling when necessary
- Provide on-site and virtual, group and individual counseling following a traumatic event
- Maintain and continually improve our list and our relationship with regional behavioral healthcare providers
- Participate in regular agency clinical and staff meetings, and any required training
- Provide Capital EAP orientations and clinical trainings both virtually and in person for our customer companies
- Provide consultations the management teams of EAP customers
- Provide counseling services in multiple agency-office locations dependent on scheduling
- Creativity, commitment, and a willingness to function as active member of a professional team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field
- Knowledge of and skills related to individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy and couples therapy
- Customer service experience
- Access to a secure and reliable internet connection
- Ability to work in a private and confidential setting while working remotely
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working with or for an employee assistance program is preferred
- Prior experience developing and facilitating trainings in a business setting is preferred
- State of New York – Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) —Licensed Mental Health Counselor-(LMHC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist — (LMFT)
- Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) certification
