Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and troubleshoot facility and manufacturing control systems consisting of PLCs, VFD’s, computer controls, HMI interfaces, as well as controls and process instrumentation
- Troubleshoot or modify existing PLC programs and make system hardware recommendations to resolve operation problems, improve processes, to support factory initiatives and continuous improvement.
- Design control systems and prepare drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Document and maintain revisions to existing automated systems and maintain appropriate PLC, and computer software/hardware information.
- Provide electrical engineering, systems integration, PLC programming, drive programming, HMI configuration, component specification, project management, and start-ups.
- Design and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability of existing plant and manufacturing control systems and equipment.
- Develop instrumentation and controls narratives, instrument datasheets, instrument index, sizing calculations, control system architecture, & control panel design.
- Calibrate of process instruments and electronic transmitters for pressure, temperature, flow, position, composition analyzers, etc.
- Support and assist Maintenance personnel in troubleshooting, testing, modifying, and installing electrical equipment and control systems.
- Through self and team provide expert knowledge of all manufacturing processes in support of a 24x7 operation.
- Advanced understanding of networks and ability to troubleshoot common outages and system communication issues
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent Technical Degree
Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, Paper industry preferred
- Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing, 5S and GMP
- Knowledge and skill in programming with Rockwell Automation & Siemens Software (RSLogix/Studio 5000, SLC 500/RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk Studio/View, Siemens Step7, WinCC, Simotion)
- Knowledge of Programmable logic controllers (PLC) [ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Step7 PLC family]
- Knowledge of Distributed Control System (DCS) [ ABB, Rockwell, Valmet DNA, Honeywell (Experion PKS)]
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) [ABB ACS 800, Allen Bradley PowerFlex, Control Techniques]
- Knowledge of Communication Protocols [Fieldbus, Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, HART, Ethernet TCP/IP, Fiber and OPC]
- Power distribution (single phase, three phase, low Voltage, medium voltage, high Voltage)
- Knowledgeable about Instrumentation calibration of pressure, temperature, flow, level etc.
- Systems (Windows/Linux) and Networking (Cisco/Juniper) Hardware and Software
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and other windows-based programs
- Proficient in AUTOCAD
- Knowledgeable in NFPA 70(NEC) / 70E
- Must be effective and comfortable in team-oriented environment.
- Must be willing to have hands-on involvement with industrial equipment
- Working schedule may require nights, weekends, and on-call hours
