JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct psychiatric services, including evaluations, treatment, and consultation.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Medical Care
- Provides psychiatric diagnostic evaluations
- Prescribes psychiatric medications as appropriate and ongoing medication management
- Assists in emergency evaluations of clients in crisis, providing emergency petitions to facilitate psychiatric hospitalization if needed
- Refers clients for the most appropriate behavioral health treatment and other needed services within CBHS or to outside resources
Teamwork
- Provides consultation to medical providers, other CBHS staff, and other service providers to facilitate a coordinated continuum of care
Workplace Computers and Equipment
- Document all prescriptions and other behavioral health services as directed by CBHS policy and professional standards
Communication
- Participation in weekly conferences
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Expert knowledge of the interaction between commonly used HIV/AIDS medications and psychiatric medications
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Familiarity with HIV/AIDS issues
- Ability to travel to CBHS county offices
- Familiarity with LGBT issues
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years experience providing psychiatry services
- MD and completed specialty training in psychiatry
- License to practice medicine in Maryland
