Middle School Career and Technical Education Teacher and Support (Part Time)
The Expedition School is a K-8 charter school in Hillsborough, NC that offers a supportive community, and project-based learning for students.
The Expedition School is seeking a Career and Technical Education and support teacher to start July, 2024. The staff member will perform tasks that may include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching Career and Technical Education classes to 7th-8th grade students
- “Adulting” including financial savings, checking, credit, investing, purchasing, food prep and more
- Childcare and babysitting certification including CPR
- Entrepreneurship
- College and Career Planning and preparation
- Felting/Sewing
- Facilitate 5th grade typing and cursive
- Teaching 5th grade computer skills (google drive, e-mail, slide-shows, files, etc)
- All lesson planning and grading related to the above classes
- Supervising 5th -8th grade recess
- Supervising the transition of students to and from special classes
- Supporting 5th-8th grade students with intervention as scheduled
- Working with small groups of students to support learning
- Working one-on-one with a student to support learning
- Supporting 6th-8th grade students while they complete i-ready lessons
- Organizing learning materials
- Grading students
- Create or modify coursework for classes
- Create relationships with students and use effective classroom management

Adulting 101: Dive into the world of adults as you dabble in “adulting” topics like nutrition and basic cooking, plants and basic gardening, fashion, clothing care and repair, money and financing including credit, loans, cost of living and taxes, care and cost of pet ownership and more.
Adulting 102: Preparenting and childcare: How do you take care of babies and children on your own? Learn to care for the safety and wellbeing of children. Learn infant CPR, baby first-aid, household safety with babies (kitchen, bathroom, etc). Learn basic child development, how to entertain a child, and develop a childcare “go-bag” that will provide fun and safety for siblings or small children in your care. At the completion of this course, TES will issue you a “Childcare Safety Course Completion” Certificate you can show parents who may wish to employ you as a babysitter.
Pathways to Success: Navigating college and career: Journey towards future goals while learning the importance of exploration and discovery in both career and college options. Discover your career potential and strengths, set goals and discover a school pathway that helps get you there! This is a state required class.
The art of Felting: Dive into the imaginative and creative aspect of needle and wet felting and use your hands working with fibers. Explore the artistic possibilities of felting while having fun in the process.
Typing and cursive: (Grade 5) Learn how to type quickly starting from home position. Also improve your cursive writing skills. Be ready to impress with quick typing and beautiful handwriting!
A highly qualified candidate will:
- Have a Bachelor’s/Master's degree in Education and be certified to teach in the state of NC
- Be savvy with middle school students and enjoy middle schoolers
- Be creative
- Have the skill set to implement the classes listed above, or be a fast learner
- Be computer proficient, particularly in G-Suite
- Be comfortable with multiple projects going on at one time.
- Be VERY organized with materials
- Be familiar or be willing to learn standards based grading.
- Have a Growth Mindset
- Be proficient in hands-on ways to learn
- Be proficient with ways to assist special needs students, including students on the spectrum
- Be a learner, flexible and willing to grow
- Work to achieve school philosophy and policies, including using project based learning and providing a STEM focus
- Be able and willing to collaborate with other staff
- Utilize effective classroom management techniques
- Be familiar with online teaching platforms such as google classroom
Hours are Job Type: 26 hours per week
Preferred education: Bachelors in education, certified teacher
Required experience: at least 1 year preferred
Pay rate: Pending years experience and final work hours

Pay: $23,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
