THE SCHOOL:
Snowy Range Academy is a free K-8 public charter school in Laramie, Wyoming. At SRA, we use the Core Knowledge sequence alongside EnVision Math, character education, and most importantly, parental involvement.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Principal shall be subject to the direction and supervision of the SRA Board through the Chairman of the Board of Directors and shall serve as the instructional administrator, responsible for the education of its pupils in accordance with the principles established in the charter document and the vision of the Board of Directors. The Principal shall promote SRA’s philosophy, mission and curriculum. The Principal is also responsible for ensuring the school operates in accordance with federal and Wyoming state statutes, and applicable ACSD#1 policy. The Principal shall see that all orders and resolutions of the Board of Directors are carried into effect and perform all other duties incident to the office of Principal and occasional duties that may be assigned by the Board of Directors through the Chairman of the Board. The Principal is a non-voting member of the Board and is expected to attend all Board meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s in Educational Leadership
- Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience (K-8)
- Minimum of 3 years instructional leadership/supervision
- Mastery of the English language, both written and oral
- Proficiency in student data analysis
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Understands and supports SRA’s philosophy, mission, and curriculum
- Possesses or can acquire within a reasonable time all legally required certifications
Other Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of the Core Knowledge and curricula; familiarity with charter schools; familiarity with public school administration and finance.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(A) Strategic Leadership
- Demonstrates commitment to Snowy Range Academy’s vision, mission and values as defined in the charter and other documents and communicates these to school instructional personnel, students, families and the community.
- Fosters a climate of continual improvement in pursuit of SRA’s mission: actively institutes and follows through on new ideas, seeking Board approval for any changes in program curriculumor that deal with SRA’s core philosophies.
- Cultivates and rewards excellence in teaching and learning.
- Shows diplomacy and sound judgment when interacting with the school and broader community.
- Oversees the student enrollment process, including lottery, placement testing, waitlist management, and student instructional need.
- Ensures SRA is in compliance with all applicable state, federal, and district laws and regulations including adherence to the charter contract.
- Stays abreast of changes to applicable laws and regulations regarding educational accountability and instruction and communicates to the Board of Directors how such changes may affect SRA.
- With the Business Manager and Board of Directors, maintains contact with the state legislature regarding charter school and SRA issues as pertains to educational programming.
- With the Business Manager, ensures SRA compliance with all relevant legal statutes pertaining to employment, including Wyoming state statutes, applicable ACSD#1 policies, and SRA’s charter contract.
(B) Instructional Leader
- Ensures that the curriculum and delivery is academically sound and consistent with the Core Knowledge, and other SRA curricula.
- Maintains SRA’s Core Knowledge School of Distinction status and makes progress towards becoming an official Core Knowledge school.
- Ensures that teaching strategies and essential elements of effective instruction are implemented.
- Plans for the academic and professional growth of faculty, and recognizes faculty achievement.
- Manages instructional summer program and after-school tutoring.
- Oversees education of special needs and at-risk students and works in collaboration with ACSD#1 to identify and educate students with special needs.
- Oversees student assessment, ensuring compliance with all state- and federal- mandated measures.
- Schedule, proctor and administer all required standardized assessments, including back-end input for computer-based assessments.
- Analyzes student data to determine progress towards school goals and determine instructional implications for students and school.
- Oversees accreditation and assists with accountability obligations of SRA.
- Implements all applicable local, state, and federal requirements for curriculum, assessment, Special Education and other academic matters.
(C) Human Resource Leadership
- Recruits and retains qualified teachers, instructional support staff, and substitutes to work for Snowy Range Academy.
- Uses personnel effectively, including adjusting assignments effectively and recommending adding or deleting faculty and staff positions to the Board.
- Supervises teachers and acts as instructional leader, guiding and mentoring faculty, designing and acquiring appropriate professional development.
- Supervises instructional support staff, school nurse, school counselor, and contract employees.
- Conducts evaluations of staff in accordance with state and local guidelines.
- Recommends personnel policy changes to the Board of Directors.
- With the Business Manager and Finance Committee, establishes annual salary ranges, advises the Board on personnel budget, and recommends individual salaries, using clear and fair criteria.
(D) School Culture and Equity Leadership
- Serves on the Crisis Committee and trains students, faculty, and staff, on school security and safety measures.
- Promotes and develops a professional relationship with the Snowy Range Academy Board and staff.
- Implements and models character education that develops a positive school culture.
- Implements the discipline policy as described in the Student-Parent Handbook.
- Works with volunteers and committees to foster a cooperative community.
- Handles parent concerns effectively.
- Seeks and delivers feedback in a timely fashion.
(*_E) Managerial Leadership*_
- With the Business Manager, manages SRA’s finances to ensure that teachers and staff have the resources needed to do their jobs.
- Establishes and oversees master and instructional schedules.
- Maintains effective communication with the SRA Board of Directors.
- Writes and submits required District, State, and Federal reports on time.
(F) External Development Leadership
- Works towards a positive relationship between SRA, as Wyoming’s first charter school, and ACSD#1, state offices, and other local, state, and regional entities with an interest in education.
- Serves as a respected and effective advocate on local, state, and regional levels for the Core Knowledge curriculum, and charter schools.
- Maintains effective communication with District and State officials.
- With the Business Manager, provides information to community, media and interested parties about the school, including enrollment open houses, tours, press releases, and interviews.
- Serves in a liaison capacity with the school district on any administrative and/or educational matters, including transportation and food services.
- With the Business Manager, assists with the recruiting, scheduling and training of volunteers within the school.
IN ADDITION TO THE FOREGOING, THE PRINCIPAL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLYING WITH ANY SPECIFIC ANNUAL GOALS IMPOSED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
