The occupational therapist facilitates fine motor development and sensorimotor performance, promote independence in daily living skills, and increase functional skills through the use of adaptations

Essential Job Functions:
- Provide comprehensive motor and functional evaluations, re-evaluations and assessments.
- Formulate goals and objectives based on students’ needs as determined by educational team.
- Provide intervention in the educational environment.
- Collaborate with educational team on strategies and techniques to support students’ educational program (home program, positioning, materials, adaptations).
- Facilitate inclusion of students by modifying the educational environment (classrooms, electives, vocational sites).
- Collaborate with educational team to assess and suggest appropriate assistive technologies (switches, alternative writing methods, computer access).
- Offer inservice opportunities to local schools and districts on subjects related to functional motor performance (activities of daily living, hand development, sensorimotor activities).
- Supervise certified occupational therapy assistants and clinical affiliates.
- Collaborate with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs.
