Position Summary
Inspect residential properties to ensure compliance with applicable building and/or other codes. This
position, under general supervision, is responsible for reviewing plans, approving construction documents
and issuing permits.
Essential Functions
Perform comprehensive field inspections on residential projects to ensure compliance with all
applicable codes
Issue notices of violations, including stop work orders and follows-up to ensure issue has been
addressed
Investigate complaints about potential code violations or in response to a specific incident
Meet with architects, engineers, contractors and other individuals throughout the course of the
design and construction of projects
Prepare and analyze inspection reports to include collecting data and writing reports
Provide advice to design professionals, homeowners, the general public and contractors
regarding code compliance, applicable procedures, and other related issues
Serve on committees, task forces, and other teams as requested
Make sure that customer solutions, practices, and procedures are carried out and achieve their
objectives
Complete assigned inspections to meet the customer’s schedule
As applicable, provide front office support, which may include: answering telephones and
providing information to callers; periodically staffing service points that require in-person
interactions with customers or staff; and/or, performing other related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of one year of inspection experience or three years in a construction trade.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized or technical training.

Licenses and Certifications
Ability to obtain a Level I certification in one trade within one year of hire
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
Requires County Driving Privileges
Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
