Central Valley Indian Health is seeking a certified Back Office Medical Assistant (MA). This “Safety Sensitive” position assists the medical staff in the provision of health care services, including but not limited to: rooming patients, inputting patient information into the EHR, and performing required tests/assessments. The MA must maintain patient confidentiality per CVIH standards & protocols, as well as adhere to HIPAA Compliance. This position is based out of Clovis, but subject to cover any CVIH clinic as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Medical Provider Support:
- Clean rooms between each visit and at the end of the day according to protocol.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and obtaining all vital signs and test per protocol.
- Prepare the patient and the exam room for medical services.
- Perform lab tests and lab specimens as required by protocol.
- Sterilize and store all instruments.
- Do all required tests and assessments required by CHDP, Diabetes, GPRA guidelines, as well as all CVIH policy and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to CVIH standards and protocols.
- Responsible for exam room cleanliness, stocking, and expiring supplies.
- Responsible for Universal Precautions. Biohazardous waste need to be out of the exam rooms daily.
- Handle calling, logging in and faxing refills as needed.
- Ensure patients have been signed in prior to being called back for their appointment.
- Communicate with front desk staff if patients are being called back or if there are delays that would affect patient flow.
- Perform COVID testing and vaccinations, as needed. Monitor patients post vaccine and provide education on side effects, what to expect, etc.
- Communicate in a friendly and professional manner to others. Provide excellent service/support to all patients, employees, and outside contacts.
II. Quality Assurance:
- Participate in departmental quality assurance activities as assigned by the Head Program RN/ RN.
- Assist in the upcoming audits as assigned by Head Program RN/ RN.
- Any other duties assigned to the employee by direct supervisor or CVIH Administration.
Requirements
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Medical Assistant Certificate.
3. Proficiency in typing, filing, medical terminology, and basic computer skills.
4. Valid CPR Certificate.
5. A valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record with the ability to be insured under CVIH’s automobile insurance.
6. Awareness and keen appreciation of Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs, or willingness to learn; an ability at times to meet and deal effectively with Indian health organizations consisting of numerous tribes with varied cultures. Tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
7. This is a “Safety Sensitive” position and as such, is subject to random drug testing and is required as a condition of continued employment.
