Job Summary:
As a Pediatric Dental Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and comfortable dental experience for children. Your responsibilities include assisting the pediatric dentist during procedures, helping young patients feel at ease, and ensuring the smooth operation of the pediatric dental practice.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Chairside Assistance:
- Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations, cleanings, and dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments, equipment, and treatment areas.
- Hand instruments to the dentist during procedures and maintain a well-organized work environment.
2. Patient Interaction:
- Communicate with children and their parents or guardians in a friendly and reassuring manner.
- Explain dental procedures, hygiene techniques, and post-treatment care to children and their caregivers in an age-appropriate and easily understandable way.
- Help young patients feel comfortable and alleviate their anxiety through empathy and distraction techniques.
3. Radiography and Recordkeeping:
- Take and process dental X-rays as directed by the dentist.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment notes, medical histories, and X-ray images, while ensuring patient confidentiality.
4. Infection Control:
- Strictly adhere to infection control protocols, including proper hand hygiene, sterilization, and disinfection procedures.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment for the safety of patients and staff.
5. Dental Equipment and Supplies:
- Monitor and order dental supplies and materials as needed.
- Ensure all dental equipment is in good working condition and report any issues promptly.
6. Pediatric Dental Education:
- Educate children and their parents or guardians on the importance of oral hygiene and preventive dental care.
- Provide guidance on proper brushing, flossing, and dietary habits to promote oral health.
7. Patient Comfort and Management:
- Assist in the management of pediatric patients with behavioral or special needs, ensuring a positive and safe dental experience.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a dental assisting program is preferred.
- Certification as a dental assistant.
- Licensed Radiology
- Pediatric dental experience or training is a significant asset.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry techniques and child psychology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children.
- Attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using dental practice management software and X-ray equipment.
- Understanding and commitment to infection control and safety protocols.
Working Environment:
- Pediatric dental clinic.
- Full-time or part-time positions may be available.
