Mount Olive Baptist Church is seeking a Communications Associate to create and implement an effective communication strategy and ministry for the dissemination of information and resources to its congregation and the broader community. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the communications efforts of the organization, including media relations, content creation, and social media management.
Primary duties will include but not be limited to the following:
Creating and curating relevant content on the church website and other social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.) to cultivate an on-going connection with the online community and Mount Olive Baptist Church
Maintenance of content on the church website and working with website hosting company to assure continued access to the site by the public.
Producing all communications media. These most notably currently include a weekly e-newsletter, social media postings, various brochures, and event flyers. This includes print and digital formats.
Creation of graphics for digital and print materials for Sunday worship, social media, email communication for all church events. This includes the creation and production of communication pieces such as postcards, invitations, etc.
Work with ministry leaders to create communications strategies for ministry events and assist with the media launch of such events, including preparation of registration materials and other materials required as part of an event launch.
Maintain Communications calendar so that communications are ready at the launch of church ministry activities, taking a proactive approach to planning media content.
Recruit and work with volunteers to create a Communications ministry which informs the church and community of relevant events taking place in the community and within Mt. Olive.
Assure that photographs are taken to document the life of Mount Olive as events take place. Posting photos and other digital media on the church website and social media platforms and cataloging them for future use.
Write and distribute press releases to alert the media of upcoming events; submit events to appropriate online calendars.
Analyze revenue and program cost data to determine budget priorities for the Communications Ministry.
Keeping abreast of current communications trends and making recommendations to improve and enhance the church’s overall communication strategy and tools.
Developing policies and protocols related to church communications.
Level of Responsibility: The incumbent of this position can work independently in conjunction with the ministerial staff and ministry leaders. The Communications Associate, under the direction of the Pastor or his designee, establishes deadlines so that the work can be accomplished in accordance with Church policies and/or accepted practices. Work may be reviewed to ensure that the overall objectives are met.
Location: The position is located in Arlington, Virginia, however, some functions may be performed remotely. The successful candidate must be available to attend in-person staff meetings and retreats, ministry meetings, and church functions as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations, or related field
- Experience creating print and digital design marketing materials.
- Knowledge and Experience in using social media and technology to carry out the congregation's marketing/communications goals.
- Experience designing communications in a church or non-profit organization is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of design, editing and desktop publishing software, such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Possess strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Availability to attend scheduled staff meetings and other ministry meetings as needed to understand the communications needs for upcoming events.
- Flexible and able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Experience working with volunteers.
*Bachelor’s degree may be substituted by significant evidence of experience in the field of marketing and communications.
As a part time position, the Communications Associate position is not eligible for benefits.
