Description:
The Patient Services Specialist (front desk associate/medical receptionist) position allows you to provide a welcoming environment to both our patients and physicians. Our patient services staff report high levels of satisfaction with their roles at Lakeside Surgery Center because they get to play a vital role in building relationships with our patients and creating a memorable experience for them. Though the days may be long and busy, they find the results to be well worth the effort.
Our patient services specialists (front desk associates/medical receptionists) greet and check in patients, verifying demographic information, obtaining signatures on patient consents, capturing insurance cards, verifying authorization accuracy, collect co-pays and past due balances, working reschedule and recall lists, and balance end of day deposits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Obtains demographic information, including insurance and completes for insurance authorization & verification, as needed.

Schedules new patient, established patient, reschedules appointments and recall list according to our company protocols.

Obtains copies of driver’s licenses and insurance cards.

Explain consent forms and obtain patient signatures.

Collects co-pays, past due balances, and set-up payment plans as necessary
-
Processes incoming faxes, scan documents into patient charts, and send for medical review
-
Sends office notes/scheduling updates to referring physicians
-
Checks out patients and schedule follow up appointments appropriately

Assists clinical team coordinate outbound referrals
-
Balances daily payment reconciliation and prepares nightly deposit, as needed.

Communicates any updates to clinical/optical teams.

Other duties as assigned
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintains public areas (waiting rooms, restrooms and kitchen), as needed.

Attends department meetings and completes trainings, as needed.

Processes medical records requests; both incoming and outgoing

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

Medical work experience is NOT required, but it can increase your starting rate

Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork

Strong interpersonal skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor)

Able to work long and irregular hours, and travel to different locations based on clinic needs

Ability to master ophthalmology terminology

Required to have reliable transportation between local clinics during the workday (mileage is reimbursed)

High School Graduate, or equivalent

Bilingual- English & Spanish

Early 6am start time
Desired Qualifications:

Experience in a busy health care facility, optometry, ophthalmology and/or retina clinic

Certified Patient Services Specialist (CPSS) Certification

Bilingual in Spanish
