Youth Shelter Advocate
Days/Hours:
40 hours per week. This position will work primarily 2nd shift from 4pm-12am. Tues-Sat

Starting pay $22.50 per hour. Additional compensation may be available based on demonstrated bi-lingual abilities, job-related advanced degrees, and professional experience.

Description:
The Briarpatch Runaway and Homeless Youth Program is recruiting a full-time (40 hours per week) advocate to work in our temporary shelter for youth who have runaway or are experiencing homelessness.
Duties:
- Oversees the daily activities of youth staying in the agency’s temporary shelter facility.
- Records documentation of client services and required paperwork in accordance with state licensing rules and agency standards.
- Helps youth staying in the shelter with meal preparation, completion of daily chores, completion of laundry and similar household responsibilities as needed.
- Maintains a working knowledge of shelter policies and procedures.
- Provides brief counseling to youth staying in the shelter.
- Supervises and facilitates recreational and vocational skill development outings.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for youth staying in the shelter
- Flexibility to participate in continuing education programming and staff meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of two (2) years full-time experience working or volunteering with teens. A background in education, social work, or human services is preferred.
- Experience working in a youth shelter or group home setting is preferred along with the ability to work with youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk for most of the day.

Reliable Transportation:
- This position requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that will allow the person to operate and agency-owned motor vehicle.
