Position Summary:
Provides project management for research projects of considerable scope and complexity. Decisions impact the success of the research project(s).
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Provides project management for a wide variety of research experiments, including personnel, facilities, animals, supplies, etc in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets and timelines.
- Plans methods and procedures for collection of data to provide information needed.
- May oversee the recruitment of study participants and field interviewers, the development and conducting of field interviewing training, and tracking the progress of test subjects and cases.
- May conduct experiments using sophisticated equipment and applies complex techniques, methods, and procedures.
- Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, re-terminate, or re-direct research activities. May monitor and revise, as necessary, the project timeline, budget, expenditures and supplies. May develop new budgets when appropriate and make independent decisions when required.
- Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication.
- Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
- Prepares communications of research results for the public and/or funding organizations.
- Provides direction and training to personnel to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc.
- May mentors fellows, graduate students and others as appropriate in support of the University’s mission.
- Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
- Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in related field with four (4) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or
Master’s degree in related field with two (2) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or
Doctorate degree.
Minimum Experience:
Years of experience varies based on education level.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
