Required qualifications:

BS/BA in microbiology or a closely related field; or a total of 4 years combined education and work experience.

Experience with the growth and maintenance of diverse yeast species and phenotypic assays of said species is essential. Ability to develop new assays related to yeast virulence is required.

Accuracy and timeliness is a required component of duties. Some flexibility with working hours based on experimental needs. Exceptional organizational and communications skills, record keeping, ability to work with a wide variety of people, and problem solving skills are essential.

Experience with microbiology techniques; such as aseptic technique, dilutions and plating, purification of single cells.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with molecular biochemical techniques; such as protein purification, electrophoresis, etc.
85% Preparing for and conducting experiments
This person will be responsible for conducting diverse experiments, maintaining lab stocks, and organizing the lab. Because of the various duties, this person must be able to prioritize tasks. The applicant should be comfortable working and assisting other lab members as well as working on their own. Good record keeping extremely important. Strong background in microbiology is important. Experience with molecular genetic and microbiological methodologies strongly valued, particularly in regards to yeast biology. ABility to work independently is essential.
10% Maintaining lab stocks
Preparing reagents and media and dry goods for general use; identifying materials to be ordered, ordering needed supplies and chemicals.
5% Includes organizing and storage of supplies and chemicals; cleanup of equipment, glassware, benches; proper disposal of hazardous wastes according to University Waste Program guidelines; ensuring common areas remain clean.
