Summary:
Responsible for transporting trailers, roll offs and other containers or goods from one place to another using heavy or tractor-trailer trucks. Operates trucks with efficiency & safety in mind.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver goods via a heavy truck, sometimes over intercity routes & long distances.
- Load and unload trailers, roll offs & other cargo.
- Record amount & type of cargo being dumped /loaded. Refrain from unsanctioned salvaging.
- Procure clients & orders for new delivers or swap outs and direct to home office.
- Keep their truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order. Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows, etc.
- Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered.
- Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion and report back to dispatch.
- Follow all applicable traffic laws.
- Inspect their truck, trailer, roll off or other container before and after the trip, recording and communicating any defects they find.
- Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs.
- Keep an accurate and complete log of all activities.
- Report all mechanical problems on inspection sheet and to the appropriate personnel.
- Plan routes using maps, GPS or satellite tracking.
- Get trailers, open tops or other containers or cargo to client on time.
- Transport hazardous materials & take special precautions while driving.
- Utilizing the tarp appropriately and safely on every load at jobsites, on the road and dumpsites.
- Properly, safely and without property damage positioning trailers and roll offs in driveways & other locations using blocks, plywood and positioning hitch.
Skills/Requirements:
- Must possess a valid CDL-A
- Must be able to sit, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, balance, hear and talk
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must practice and promote safety first environment.
- Must excel in and promote a team environment
- Must be able to function well in a physically demanding environment.
- Must be punctual, dedicated and reliable
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts, including Saturdays
- Ability to use a cell phone to communicate via text with dispatch to receive work orders
- Must be able to pass criminal background check, physical and DOT drug screen
- Must have safe driving record, including no avoidable accidents in the past five years
- Must have ability to communicate professionally with customers, dispatch and internal customer service
