Be part of a multi-discipline team designing custom equipment for the forest products industry. We are looking for a highly engaged and skilled Junior Design Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is looking to grow their skills in heavy equipment and machinery design. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the ideal candidate will possess a technical background, exceptional problem-solving skills and a passion for working within a team environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, or an early-career professional!
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D modeling of moderately complex machinery for the forest products industry using SolidWorks;
- Ensure designs conform to applicable standards;
- Develop steel fabrication details;
- Develop ancillary systems installation details;
- Support shop fabrication as required;
- Ensure a commitment to continuous improvement;
- Other duties as required.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- Experience: 1-2 years of relevant industrial experience in heavy equipment and machinery drafting and design preferred;
- Proficient in the use of 3D design software – SolidWorks or Inventor;
- Proficient in the use of 2D AutoCAD;
- Knowledge and application of design and CAD drafting standards;
- Knowledge and application of common structural steel shapes and other construction materials;
- Ability to create accurate installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings;
- Good mechanical aptitude as well as creativity in solving problems;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in work;
- Self-motivated, excellent communication and organizational skills.
