Under general supervision, the Supervisor, Police and Safety Services assists the Chief of Police and Safety Services in overseeing, directing, and participating in the day-to-day operations of a division (operations or administration) of the Police and Safety Services Department. This includes short- and long-term planning, and the development and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services. This classification will assist the Chief of Police and Safety Services in managing departmental functions, overseeing law enforcement administration, and be responsible for policing duties. The position exercises direct supervision over personnel.
Example Job Duties

Supervises campus police officers and department employees.
- Acts as Incident Commander during police operations in the absence of the Chief of Police and Safety Services.
- Develops, evaluates, and manages projects. Assigns tasks to others to complete each project.

Provides security planning for large gatherings, assemblies, or athletic events.

Assists the Chief of Police and Safety Services in developing and managing campus-wide emergency preparedness programs.

Directly manages all aspects of employee lifecycle including recruitment, transfers, suspensions, layoffs, recalls, promotions, terminations, task assignments, performance evaluations, rewards, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution, ensuring adherence to District policies and legal requirements.

Assists in developing and managing the annual budget, including general funds, equipment, grants, and other programs and projects.
- Conducts investigations of complex campus crimes and coordinate criminal investigations with the District Attorney's office, Probation Departments, Parole Departments, as well as all other criminal justice agencies.
- Recommends goals and objectives, assists in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating departmental programs, policies, procedures, and rules.
- Compiles information and data to prepare a wide variety of reports, including those for various governmental agencies on county, state, and federal levels.
- Assures compliance with all applicable criminal justice systems, county, state, and federal codes, and laws.
- Develops effective patrol response to identify crime patterns, trends, and activities using community-oriented policing methods.
- Prepares and presents to the court requests for search and arrest warrants. Conduct, follow and serve search warrants.

Plans specific programs and activities designed to suppress crime and criminal conduct, using all available departmental and community/campus resources.
- Receives incident reports for follow-up investigation to include contacting witnesses, victims, and suspects for interview and/or interrogation.
- Patrols campus on foot to enforce District policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Six years of experience in law enforcement
- Must be twenty-one years of age at time of hire
- An Intermediate Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Certificate
- Possession of a valid California driver license
- Will be required to obtain a Supervisory POST Certificate within the first year of employment if not possessed already.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent, in relevant discipline

Two years experience as a Lead Officer, Field Training Officer, or supervisory level officer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to law enforcement, including arrest, search, and seizure protocols, California Penal, Vehicle, and Education codes.

Proven ability to provide effective leadership and supervision to a team of law enforcement personnel, including training, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance.

Proficiency in administering first aid and CPR in emergency situations, along with the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies.

Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with individuals and groups, as well as to prepare comprehensive reports and presentations.

Ability to analyze situations accurately, adopt effective courses of action, and resolve conflicts in an academic environment.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations governing law enforcement activities.

Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities, demonstrating sensitivity and understanding.

Ability to supervise the administration of budgets, allocating resources effectively to meet operational needs while adhering to financial regulations and constraints.
