JOB SUMMARY:
Individuals who are credentialed Peer Support Specialists who want to work in food service and who would also like to have the opportunity to provide pre- job (food service) training to our members are eligible for a hiring Bonus of $1000 after 90 days of employment.

The Center for Health and Recovery (CHR), formerly known as CHEEERS is a Community Service agency providing support services to individuals with mental health and or substance use disorders. We are currently looking to hire Kitchen Aide / Cook. Our Program is currently open Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, so this position does not involve nights or weekends. CHR provides services that are Peer delivered (by individuals who have lived experience having a mental health and or substance use disorder. While this position does not require an individual to have lived experience, individuals in recovery are best suited for the position as it does involve considerable interaction and engagement with program participants.) This position is responsible to help plan, prepare, cook and serve food to program participants ensuring that meals are nutritious, tasteful, appealing, prepared, stored and served in compliance with all State and County food service and public health regulations. This position involves managing inventory and requesting the needed supplies to ensure smooth food service operations. As a priority the Kitchen Aide will also maintain a sanitary and safe working environment. Cooking skills are required as this position will at times be the only individual preparing meals for program participants. Individuals who are reliable, honest, hardworking are best suited for employment at CHR. Those in recovery are encouraged to apply. CHR has an attendance policy that must be followed in order for individuals to be successful in this position. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential job function.
JOB DUTIES:
- Prepare food in accordance with Maricopa County Environmental Health regulations.
- Maintain food and supply inventory
- Ensure proper food storage
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Follows menus
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with individuals who have a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Menus and recipes
- Cooking techniques
- Basic mathematics, including calculations to convert recipe ingredients to appropriate sizes
- Sanitation practices in a food establishment
- Preparing meals in a large group setting
- Preparing nutritional and palatable food
- Safe use of cleaning tools and chemicals
Ability to:
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Maintain positive working relationships with members and staff
- Learn and apply state regulations to ensure proper kitchen operations
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidates will be required to possess a current, valid food handler’s permit
- All employees must be fully vaccinated.
- Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year cooking experience.
- Individuals who are additionally Certified Peer/Recovery Support Specialist are encouraged to apply as this position could also include teaching of cooking skills to participants of the program.
