Primary Purpose:
Provide a physical education program in which the activities and teaching procedures are adapted to the unique needs of eligible students with disabilities who cannot participate in the general health fitness program or who need modifications for safe and successful participation in general health fitness.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:-
Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE) preferred.
- Special Education certification preferred.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
- Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

- Leverage processes, people, and technology to pursue individual, team, and district goals and objectives.
- Organizational, people and motivational (self-starter) skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Adhere to deadlines.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Instructional Strategies:
- Determine appropriate accommodations and modifications for students to safely and successfully participate in health fitness program.
- Determine the appropriate level for instructional settings (ADHF continuum of services) to ensure LRE.
- Collaborate with others to provide for learner needs.
- Design services to ensure appropriate programming and/or equipment is in place.
- Utilize student data to create individualized instruction.
Student Growth and Development:
- Develop measurable goals for students to provide an appropriate physical education program, including services/instruction in the least restrictive environment.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Attend ARD meetings as necessary.
- Maintain files for special needs students and prepare required documentation for monitoring.
Communication:
- Conduct consultations/evaluations to determine appropriate eligibility for adapted health fitness services.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies.
Other:
- Oversee and support Special Olympics thru coaching, scheduling, parent communication, recruitment of staff and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
None.

Computer, printer, copier, ACTIVBoard and audio visual machines.

Mental Demands:-
Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
- Work prolonged or irregular hours.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
- Move small stacks of text books, media equipment, desk and other classroom equipment.
