The salary range applicable to this role is $110,000 - $145,000. This role ideally will sit in our US Headquarters at our offices in New Providence, New Jersey, but we are open to remote US candidates who meet or exceed our qualifications. Job Description:
The role of the Backend Developer is crucial to our team’s success in delivering Direct to Consumer video experiences. The video streaming experiences that Kiswe provides are powered by a set of backend API services that operate at a large scale to serve millions of users globally. In this role, you will be part of creating, enhancing, and scaling those services. You’ll be part of a distributed team with colleagues around the world, collaborating with others across quite a few different platforms and emerging technologies. As such, you’ll need to bring both an individual perspective and a supportive team mindset to the work ahead.

The Backend Developer will collaborate within the Backend team on the development of new features as well as focus on continuous system reliability, scalability, and performance improvements. This position will require strong computer science fundamentals in software architecture, data structures, and cloud based distributed systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of streaming video delivery, REST APIs, SQL databases, e-Commerce/payment, single sign-on authentication, AWS services, and Python Django software development.
This position will collaborate with other backend developers and tech leaders across the organization. The ability to work closely with others in the same discipline and understand stakeholder needs is critical to your success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create new backend features and API endpoints
- Own the realization and deployment, including performance optimization, scaling, and reliability of our distributed cloud based backend architecture
- Work to integrate our services with key partners through their APIs
- When infrastructure issues do arise, perform root cause analysis to resolve them
- Track emerging technology trends, new libraries, and new cloud services that could improve our products
- Develop and maintain reusable code libraries to help build streamlined and efficient automated test processes
- Analyze and evaluate automation & defect metrics, providing feedback to developers, system & data architects, and analysts & subject matter experts
- Collaborate together with data scientists, analysts, and other team members to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
- Connect closely with analytics and business teams to enhance data collection and usage
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience with Python and Django REST Frameworks
- 3+ years of experience in working with databases, specifically in Postgres (MySQL or other SQL background is helpful also)
- 3+ years backend support for REST APIs
- Experience with backend development and microservices in a cloud environment (preferably AWS)
- Strong computer science fundamental knowledge of architecture and data structures concepts
- Demonstrated history of success as both an individual contributor and in delivering as a team
- Enjoys working collaboratively with a talented team
Desirable Qualifications:
- E-Commerce experience working with various payment platform APIs including Stripe, PayPal, ApplePay, GooglePay, Klarna, Afterpay, Braintree, and others
- 3-5+ years working on Backend or Full Stack projects
- Experience using AWS Services such as Elasticache Redis, EC2, S3, Cloudfront and other AWS Services
- Experience with single sign-on authentication implementations
- Familiarity with video streaming and ad delivery platforms, technology, and architectures a plus
- Strong database skills with NoSQL (MongoDB, AWS Dynamo, Google Firestore)
- Experience running large-scale load tests and using the results to drive performance optimizations (testing tools such as Locust)
- Experience generating analytics data for downstream customers a plus
- Ability to work both individually and in Agile teams, using standard tools like task tracking (eg. Monday, Jira), Git, etc. to coordinate with others
- Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to adapt and evolve to technology changes
- Desire to develop skill set and share knowledge with the team
