Benson Hospital is adding a Fulltime or Part time, MLT, MT or MS to our Lab Staff.
POSITION SUMMARY
To perform quantitative and qualitative chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological analysis. To obtain data used by the pathologist and other physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of injury or disease. To perform laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Processes laboratory specimens and performs variety of clinical lab testing according to approved standard operating procedures including qualitative and quantitative chemistry, hematology, clinical microscopy, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank
- Consistently practice AIDET
- Wears PPE at all times and use proper technique when handling chemicals, bodily fluids, and other hazardous material
- Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas; practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment
- Reviews lab orders for accuracy and reconciles.
- Prepare and package specimens to be sent to reference laboratories
- Meets expected turnaround time for test results; prioritizes workload
- Recognizes abnormal test results and determines course of action following predetermined criteria prior to reporting results; if necessary, confers with management or pathologist before reporting results
- Performs, records, and evaluates quality control results and implements corrective action as appropriate according to approved standard operating procedures
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation and other equipment correcting basic malfunctions.
- Understand MSDS and know where to locate
- Ensures that adequate supplies and reagents are available to perform the testing
- Trains other personnel in policies, procedures and protocols pertaining to their job duties
- Communicates and interfaces with hospital personnel, patients and medical staff to ensure high quality patient care
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
· Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards
· Enhances laboratory and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
· Actively participates in process improvement with assigned department and address gaps directly with countermeasures
· Adheres to Benson Hospital organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
· Take call as required by department schedule
· Participate in all mandatory meetings, classes, and programs
· Maintain required continuing education
· Other duties as assigned
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure uninterrupted service to physicians and patients by keeping work areas clean, well-stocked, and in safe working condition
- Ensure the timely completion and quality of all procedures, review of work with pathologist, and keeping appropriate physicians and nursing personnel fully informed of test results
- Keep apprised of changing technology in the field
- Participate in professional and continuing education programs designed to update skills, enable growth within the profession and result in better service to physicians, nursing personnel, and patients
- Follow all department/ hospital policies, practices, procedures, and standards to ensure safety, security, and general well-being of all individuals in the hospital
- Understand and contribute to department goals as they work in harmony with the Knowledge of clinical laboratory protocols to ensure tests and procedures are accurate
- Effective problem resolution

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Preferred MLT registered
2. Work well in stressful situations; be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends; possess excellent human relation skills. Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at a college level
3. Excellent organizational skills
4. Possess excellent human relations’ skills
5. Associated chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
6. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification or ability to complete
7. CPR per the Benson Hospital Policy
8. Must Pass Color Blind Test
