ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a DSP to work in a group home setting 1:1 with a young male individual who is a very outgoing guy, and enjoys being a part of planning his life. He does best when he has the plan for the entire week's activities and tasks.
In addition to that, he needs to know what alternative plans are in place in case of disruption to the plan. If the plan with contingencies are not in place, complex behaviors are typically triggered.
This individual has a history of physical and verbal aggressive behaviors towards staff and others. These behaviors require the support of exceptionally seasoned staff in order to redirect the behavior. Staff must also be comfortable with and accustomed to working with individuals with aggressive behaviors.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

2 years of relevant work experience

1 year of experience working with Autism and challenging behaviors

Experience de escalating individuals who are prone to property destruction and physical and verbal aggression

Ability to read, write and speak English at a level that meets the performance requirements; or must be able to communicate in the language spoken by the individual at a level that meets the performance requirements; whichever is deemed more important by the company.

Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Ability to meet licensing requirements of the state and county

Ability to effectively use a computer/tablet, calculator, household appliances, smoke alarms, etc. with training
