Reporting to the Manager of Beacon Sleep Disorders, this role coordinates the daily activities related to the operations of the Memorial Sleep Disorders Center. Ensures safe, high-quality care is provided to all patients. Serves as a key contact and resource for physicians and their staff. Also performs the Essential Functions of a Polysomnography Technician as necessary.
Coordinates the activities of the Sleep Disorders Center to ensure provision of high-quality services by:
- Assisting in protocols, policies and procedures with input from physicians and associates. Also interpreting and supporting Hospital policies, procedures and program changes.
- Scheduling and monitoring the workload of assigned associates, re-establishing priorities, adjusting schedules and reassigning work as necessary.
- Providing input on program direction.
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of ongoing training, in-service education and required CEU's for department. Provide input into the development of a comprehensive orientation and training for new associates.
- Providing ongoing technical guidance and assistance to team members.
Ensuring continuing high-quality patient services by:
- Assist in developing and implementing a Quality Assurance program with involvement of the Sleep Disorders Center's staff.
- Assist with the requirements of the various regulatory agencies (and accrediting organizations) are adhered to.
- Recommending new and/or replacement equipment and other capital fund purchases.
- Scoring of all sleep studies adult and pediatric in accordance with the AASM guidelines.
- Assure all AASM practice guidelines are being met.
- Prepare and download all out of center testing (OCST) and score.
- Send sleep studies to the appropriate physician for interpretation.
- Evaluate acuity of all incoming patients.
- Ongoing monitoring and input data to the sleep lab database.
- Assist off site physicians with technical problems.
- Involved in and oversee the CPAP clinic, and retrieving compliance data.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate's degree in an allied health, business or related field. A valid and current license to practice as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT), Registered Sleep Technologist (AASM) or Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorders Specialist (NBRC) and three years of polysomnograhy/scoring experience is required. Pediatric experience and demonstrated leadership ability desired.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and competency in, evaluation of sleep disorder studies, and associated procedures, assessments, treatments and techniques appropriate to the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
- Requires advanced knowledge of departmental and AASM policies, procedures and practices.
- Demonstrates the well-developed managerial skills (including planning, organization, analytical, problem-solving, delegation and facilitation) necessary to effectively coordinate team member activities. Also must be able to effectively motivate, manage and train subordinate team members.
- Requires the ability to develop innovative solutions, compile and evaluate data and prepare reports.0
- Demonstrates the communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to clearly articulate information to patients, physicians and Hospital team members.
- Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (including the ability to troubleshoot all monitoring equipment utilized within the department.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.00 - $41.00 per hour
